About the breed Litters of the Birmans Litters of the Siberians Galeries of our cats |
Originally, the Siberian was a typical forest cat. First mentions of this breed date back to the year 1000.
The breed comes from severe Siberia and that's why these cats can survive in very harsh climate.
From the very beginning, people have played hardly any role in its breeding - the breed came into being naturally, without human interference.
Due to their origins, Siberian cats are fond of the winter season - for example they can ask to go for a walk during this time of the year and you should let them do it (good option is a walk on the balcony). In their natural habitat, they had to wade in the streams and, what is interesting, they now enjoy spending time in water!
Siberian cats are of a medium or large size with dense coat. They are surprisingly heavy - females are smaller (they usually weight about 4-6 kg) than males (weight up to 7-8 kg); but there are some representatives that weight 10 kg (or even more)! Siberian cats reach full physical development when they are 4-5 years old.
At first sight, we can notice their strong muscles and sweet muzzle. On the whole, they have an outstandingly strong personality characterized by great intelligence. They are sensitive, good-natured and curious. Their curiosity makes them following their owner round the house. They adopt quickly to new environment and endure travels easily, so it is no problem to take your cat for a holiday with you. Siberians are friendly and loyal. They have no violent behaviour and usually avoid confrontations, but at the same time they enjoy a company of other pets at home. They are a good choice as a companion for children, because they are patient and playful. They seem to be very talkative – for instance they try to "talk" with their owners. They do not have destructive interests, they try to be delicate and careful. It does not take them long to learn the cleanliness. The characteristic feature of this breed is that, even though domestication and the need of living with people, they still have something wild in them, which makes them such exciting breed. They love climbing, running and jumping, and their particular interest in resting in highly located places proves the "wildness-rule". Their coat does not need much care during autumn and winter, however you have to brush them every day during spring and summer, because if you will not, the coat will look like felt. Bear in mind that you mustn't brush the tail! New hair on this part can grow up to 2 years!
